Violeta Amaya Sun Princess

Violeta Belen Amaya, daughter of Barbara and Carlos Amaya moved to El Paso 16 years ago and quickly felt at home. Violeta enjoys sharing her love for Mexican American culture by participating in the UTEP Mariachi group, as well as the Danzas Españolas, a flamenco dance company located here in El Paso.

Participating in the 2023-2024 Sun Court will allow Violeta the opportunity to represent the union of various cultures that is uniquely experienced in the borderland, as well as a chance to be an advocate for young women to further their education and expand their horizons.

A graduate of Valle Verde Early College High School, Violeta is currently studying Biological Sciences in order to achieve a master’s degree in physician assistant studies at UTEP. As a part of the U-RISE (Undergraduate Research Initiative for Scientific Enhancement) program, Violeta can do her undergraduate research in a biology lab on campus. Off-campus, however, Violeta will be starting her clinical experiences as an emergency department scribe at The Hospitals of Providence.
